Braving the Wilderness

Brené Brown

If I could sum up Brown’s message in one sentence, it would be this. Secrecy breeds shame and sharing creates strength. Brown is an American psychologist who studies shame in our culture. She has written multiple books on this topic and strives to give us the courage we need to face our fears and our emotions.

Brown strongly feels that this great act of courage, facing one’s inner demons, allows us to own our emotions, rather than be controlled by them. In other words, to find peace, you have to be prepared to face your anger and your fear. This is different than projecting your anger on others, or blaming them for your current situation.

For all of those who seek a sense of belonging that does not depend on external factors, but rather on a strong sense of purpose, I invite you to explore Brown’s philosophy. In the words of Maya Angelou, quoted in this text, “the price is high, the reward is great”.
